Tripla Lavagem – como eliminar o glúten de vez

If you came to this post, you've surely heard about Triple Wash somewhere and thought: What is this crazy? Sim, because it seems crazy to say that when we discover celiac disease we need to clean every square in the kitchen to get rid of the gluten.

Well, so let's get to the facts. People who have celiac disease cannot consume gluten, theoretically in the amount above 20ppm's. If you have a gluten-contaminated kitchen, so, people in your family eat gluten, this gluten can accumulate on a daily basis and you can end up consuming more than the amount allowed for a celiac. Above 20ppm's the celiac's immune system is activated and the damage from contamination can be great..

Don't know what ppm's are? Click here and I'll explain.

That's why most doctors and nutritionists recommend decontaminating the kitchen at home when we receive the diagnosis., so that at least in our house there is no contamination.

Because I only did the Triple Wash after 8 years of diagnosis?

I personally never felt the effects of cross-contamination., I'm asymptomatic, would need to spend weeks eating with contamination to have any effect on the body. So since I discovered celiac disease (8 years ago) I always ate with contamination. At home my parents always continued to eat gluten, whether on french bread, the pasta, in candy.. And I never bothered to have my utensils separate, so I used the same pans, the same toaster, the same cups.. During 8 years everything went very well, I always followed through exams to see how the intestine was and blood tests and I never had changes due to contamination.

Recently that started to change, there is 2 years ago I developed crohn's disease and hashimoto's thyroiditis and I am currently in research for other possible autoimmune diseases due to altered exams. I can't be sure these exams are like this because of gluten, I believe it is more a set of factors that are leading me to these results and gluten may be heavily involved. Finally, after 8 years, I decided to triple wash my kitchen and decontaminate gluten for good.

My triple wash wasn't perfect, I know this very well. I tried to work doing my best within my possibilities and I hope it helps me, however I want to detail for you how to do the triple wash and what I did right and wrong so you can do it right in your house.

Watch the video of how I decontaminated my kitchen from gluten

How to correctly do the Triple Wash to eliminate gluten?

To begin, everything you wash, as the name says, will be washed 3 times.

> The first wash will be done with detergent, vinegar and bicarbonate

> The second wash will be done again with detergent, vinegar and bicarbonate

> The third wash will be done with detergent only.

after each wash, the sponge must be discarded and a new sponge must be used once everything is decontaminated

Complex, laborious but possible. Use only disposable cloths and alcohol 70 to finish the cleaning and make sure that no dirt remains. Hot water is welcome in this process as it helps to soften anything stuck in pans., plates, etc. Remember to wash your hands well before you start washing or using gloves.. If someone from outside comes to help, it is important that this person washes their hands well. I had Janinha's help and asked her to do a triple hand wash because she eats gluten, bread.. every day. She didn't scrub her hands with a sponge, just washed very well 3 times and under the nails used a brush, because it is a place that can accumulate gluten.

what do i need to throw away?

Plastic, madeira, bamboo, ceramic if scratched or chipped, better discard. Blender cup if you don't unscrew the bottom (the ideal would be to eliminate it entirely because of the motor that can retain particles of gluten), food mixer, toaster, Teflon pans with scratches, cutlery with dirt that cannot be removed (ex: fork with dirt in the middle that won't come out at all). Ps.: in the video I teach a technique to clean the forks. dish towels, de pia, tablecloths. cast iron pan, pasta colander and strainers (It's pretty hard to remove everything that's left in those tiny holes, I didn't particularly try to take them out because they are cheap tools so I changed them at once), scratched boards mainly wooden ones.

what can i keep?

Glass, stainless steel, intact teflon, aluminum can be washed and used. Silicone materials if intact. Oven and microwave if in good condition and can be cleaned well.

What I Did Right and Wrong With My Triple Wash:

In the video you will see that a lot of things that should be thrown away, I kept. That's because I can't change everything at once.. But little by little I'm replacing what you need. The plastic pots for example I only discarded those with risks, blisters that could have bumps that hold some leftover food. The ones that were in good condition I kept. Dish and sink cloths as they come into direct contact with dishes, I got rid of everyone. Already the tablecloths I washed in the machine with vinegar, bicarbonate and soap and continue using. Oven and microwave I washed everything as much as possible. My blender uncracks the bottom so I can wash the propellers well and that's why it was kept. I changed the mixer, mixer and toaster.

I know the ideal is to follow the recommendations but I am calm knowing that I did my best and rubbed very well each utensil I decided to keep. If you are going to do it at your house and you have the possibility to change everything that is necessary, change! And be happy in a gluten safe house.

But after all, there is proof that the triple wash works?

This technique is homemade and was disclosed by Professor Flávia Anastácio de Paula in 2007, by the need to decontaminate your kitchen after diagnosis of celiac disease of your 3 sons. The teacher suggested the three-step cleaning procedure, with soap, vinegar and alcohol, just one wash, her children continued to be sick. Flavia, besides doing it at your house, started to guide this form of cleaning in celiac groups, as a way to efficiently eliminate gluten and gluten traces from the home kitchen at the time the celiac disease diagnosis reaches families.

“Não é uma técnica que tenha sido validada em laboratório. Unfortunately, there are still few Brazilian researchers dedicated to the study of celiac disease., of the gluten-free diet and the various aspects of gluten-free life. It is important that they can test and validate efficient methods of removing traces of gluten from household items., to assure celiac patients and their families that the procedures adopted are effective. While these studies are not carried out, the celiac community cannot wait, for it is the recovery of your health that is at stake. So the best thing to do is clean the kitchen with TRIPLE WASH, until a validated method is disclosed!”
